ABOUT ME

I earned a B.S. in Biology from the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos, México (2002), a Masters from the School of Integrative Biology from the University of Illinois (2008), a Ph.D. in Natural Resources and Environmental Science from the University of Illinois (2015) and held a postdoctoral position at the Illinois Natural History Survey (2016). I work in the National Bird Banding Laboratory (BBL) at the USGS Patuxent Wildlife Research Center. I am helping the BBL team to strengthen the national data management system for bird banding and band encounter data sets and examining specific banding data sets to understand bird population patterns, including bird movements, migration, population dynamics and survival of species of concern.

I am also an affiliated researcher at the Illinois Natural History Survey and study various aspects of avian ecology and behavior with the overarching goal of improving conservation efforts. My studies generally involve the study of birds under natural conditions and using traditional and novel technologies for the study of behaviors and for surveying animals.
